Burlington Bees News Release

PEORIA, Ill. (8/16/12) - The Burlington Bees' (61-60, 29-23) starter Chris Lamb dominated the Peoria Chiefs (54-67, 19-33) on Thursday and helped the Bees earn a 4-to-0 victory. The shutout gave the Bees their fourth consecutive win and brought them within two games of the first place Clinton Lumber Kings.

Chris Lamb was brilliant in game two and rarely faced trouble. The lefty only allowed the Chiefs to reach scor- ing position twice in 7.2 innings on the mound.

Lamb recently pitched a then career-high 6.1 innings last week when he led the Bees to a victory over the Chiefs. On Thursday night Lamb struck out a career-high six batters and reestablished his career high for in- nings in a game by pitching into the eighth on Thursday night.

Overall the left-hander allowed six hits and one walk in his 7.2 innings on the mound. Besides keeping the Chiefs scoreless into the eighth, Lamb (2-2) struck out six and earned his second consecutive win with the Bees.

The offense helped Lamb earn a victory in his banner start. The Bees put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning after Bobby Crocker walked, stole second and eventually scored on an error by the second baseman Zeke DeVoss. Wade Kirkland added an RBI single and the Bees led 2-to-0 after one inning.

The club took advantage of another error in the fifth inning when Kirkland reached third base after the Chiefs' center fielder dropped a fly ball. Nick Rickles followed Kirkland and helped execute the squeeze play to score Kirkland. The Bees led 3-to-0.

The Bees scored one more run in the sixth inning on sacrifice fly ball by Sean Jamieson that scored Michael Fabiaschi.

The Bees now have an overall record over .500 (61-60) for the first time since they won game one of a double header in Wisconsin on April 17. Prior to tonight, the club had only enjoyed about nine days of the season with a record over .500.

Drew Granier (11-7) gets the start in game three. The Bees will try to win their fifth consecutive game and sec- ond sweep of the season with a win on Friday night. First pitch of game three is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
