Fireworks, Zooperstars Entertain Season-High Crowd

MIDLAND, MI - A season-high 5,763 fans packed Dow Diamond Friday night for a post-game Fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning and an appearance by national entertainment act Zooperstars!. As for the game, the Bowling Green Hot Rods continued their series dominance over the Great Lakes Loons, capturing a 2-1 victory to claim a three-game series sweep.

Tyler Goeddel snapped a 1-1 tie in the fifth with an RBI single to bring home what proved to be the game winning run.

Arismendy Ozoria (8-7) was charged with the loss but pitched fairly well, allowing two earned runs over five innings. The Loons bullpen held the Hot Rods scoreless. Craig Stem made his Loons debut with two perfect frames. Scott Griggs walked three and recorded just one out in the seventh, but Matt Shelton escaped the jam and hurled a scoreless eighth.

Jake Floethe started for Bowling Green and allowed one run before leaving due to an injury after three innings. Justin Woodall (3-4) worked two scoreless, hitless innings and notched the win. He did walk two and hit two batters. Staten Thomas, Shay Crawford and Austin Hubbard continued with scoreless relief work. Thomas did not allow a run in 2 2/3 innings. Crawford threw one pitch to get the final out of the eighth. Hubbard handled the ninth for his 19th save.

James Baldwin stole three more bases in the game to run his total on the season to 47.

The Loons (23-29 second half, 57-65 overall) begin a four-game series at West Michigan (26-27, 62-61) Saturday night at 7pm. Right-handed pitcher Raydel Sanchez (3-7, 4.28) is scheduled to start for the Loons against West Michigan righty Jeff Ferrell (5-4, 4.00). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
