Clinton LumberKings News Release

Geneva, IL "" Guillermo Pimentel didn't start the game for the LumberKings but he helped finish it with a pinch-hit, two-out, run-scoring single in the top of the 10th inning to break a 0-0 tie at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Friday night and send Clinton to a 2-1 win.

Anthony Phillips followed with a single to left field, scoring Mike Dowd to make it 2-0. Against Kane County pitchers Tim Melville, Andrew Triggs and Kellen Moen, Clinton managed only one hit and two walks in the first nine innings. However, Clinton pitchers Mayckol Guaipe and Matt Brazis held the Cougars off the scoreboard as well.

The LumberKings rally against Moen in the 10th started with a two-out walk by Jabari Blash. Dowd hit a slow roller past the mound for an infield single, moving Blash to third. Pimentel pinch-hit for Jharmidy De Jesus and hit a rocket up the middle that second baseman Justin Trapp got a glove on but couldn't handle. The ball went into right-center and allowed Blash to score and Dowd to third.

Brazis struck out Kenny Swab to start the bottom of the 10th inning but then allowed a solo home run to Trapp on a 3-2 pitch to cut the lead to 2-1. The right-hander came back to strikeout Jack Lopez, his seventh strikeout of the night in relief and then got Daniel Mateo to groundout to first to end the game.

With the win, Clinton increases their lead over Kane County to five games and cut their magic number (Any number of LumberKings' wins or Kane County losses) to make the playoffs to 13. Mayckol Guaipe started for Clinton and scattered eight hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Brazis threw the final 3 2/3 for his first win in a Clinton uniform.

The LumberKings begin a four-game home series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Saturday at Ashford University Field. Casey's and KWQC-TV present Derek Holland Bobblehead Giveaway. After the series opener, Post-Game Karaoke is presented by "Fat Dawgs Productions." Saturday also marks TBI Night.
