Portland Beavers News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jon Knott was 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and Bobby Hill drove in five runs to help John Hudgins earn a victory in his debut with the Portland Beavers, who defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 13-7 Sunday night at Security Service Field.
The Beavers (40-43) quickly built a 6-0 lead and put the game out of reach with a five-run outburst in the sixth after the Sky Sox managed to trim their earlier deficit to two runs.
Hill, who had two doubles among his three hits, started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning and capped a four-run third with a three-run double.
Colorado Springs (34-50) scored a pair in the bottom of the third and cut the deficit to 6-4 with a two-run double by Carlos Rivera in the fifth.
Knott rounded out the Beavers' five-run sixth inning with a three-run homer, his 17th of the season.
Hudgins, who joined the Beavers on Friday, went five innings in his first start with the club. Acquired in an early May trade that sent former Beaver Freddy Guzman to the Texas Rangers, Hudgins gave up four runs (2 earned) on seven hits while striking out four.
Former Beaver Miguel Asencio took the loss, giving up six runs over 2 2/3 innings.
Paul McAnulty doubled and had two RBIs for the Beavers, who have won four of their last six games.

The series concludes Monday night at 6:05 p.m. (Pacific). The Beavers return to PGE Park on Tuesday, July 4, with post-game fireworks to follow their game against Las Vegas.
NOTES: The San Diego Padres recalled Beavers reliever Cla Meredith on Sunday ... Mike Thompson, who was optioned to Portland on Saturday, will join the Beavers' rotation for a start on Thursday ... the Beavers matched their season-high for runs scored.
