Rockies recall INF Luis Gonzalez

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced following tonight's game that they have recalled infielder Luis Gonzalez from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the roster, the club has optioned outfielder Ryan Spilborghs to Colorado Springs. Gonzalez (#4) will be in uniform for tomorrow's game against the Giants.

Gonzalez will be in his second stint with the Rockies. He was on the team's season opening roster, but was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 28 (retroactive to May 27) with inflammation in both wrists. Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A at the end of a rehab assignment on June 11. The team's Opening Day second baseman, Gonzalez has batted .240 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI in 32 games for the Rockies this season. He has made 24 starts at second base and 2 at first base. In the Pacific Coast League, Gonzalez has batted .236 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in 24 games, including a .303 (10-for-33) mark over his last 9 contests.

Spilborghs has batted .280 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in 33 games over two stints with Colorado. He has hit safely in 13 of his 15 starts for the Rockies this season.

With these moves, the Rockies still have 37 players on the club's 40-man roster.
