Division-leading Sidewinders return home to take on Las Vegas and Tacoma

July 3, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - The first place Tucson Sidewinders will return home to Tucson Electric Park after the team's current 8-game road trip to host division rival Las Vegas 51s (Dodgers) and Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) during the team's Independence Day Celebration homestand beginning Tuesday, July 4th at 6:00 p.m. The 6-game homestand will mark the team's final one before the All-Star break and will feature an eye-popping trio of 3D Fireworks Spectacular on July 4th with a special 6:00 p.m. start time. The Sidewinders will host an encore fireworks performance on Friday, July 7th.

Tucson currently holds a nine game lead over second place Las Vegas in the Pacific Southern Division on the merits of a 20-8 record in June. This marks the deepest into the season a Sidewinders team has been in first place. Tucson took three of five games against the 51s during the team's last homestand.

The Sidewinders recently had two players named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team in SS Stephen Drew and 2B Alberto Callaspo, whose 106 hits lead all minor leaguers. Drew was also named to the Futures Game during the Major League All-Star festivities, along with Sidewinders Manager Chip Hale who will coach for the World Team.

Newly appointed University of Arizona President Dr. Robert Shelton will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the 4th of July celebration. In addition to the pair of fireworks displays, the homestand will also feature the Diamondbacks Hat giveaway, when the first 2,000 fans with paid admission will receive a free Arizona Diamondbacks baseball cap.

Good seats remain for all games. The Tucson Electric Park box office can be reached at (520) 434-1021. Gates open one hour before game time unless otherwise noted.
