Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox sent the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 7-0 loss in their regular-season home finale Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
With the win, the Sky Sox split the four-game series between the top two teams in the PCL American Northern Division and now trail the first-place Dodgers by a half-game in the standings with nine games remaining in the season.
Colorado Springs starting pitcher Adrian Houser, from Tahlequah, Okla., pitched seven shutout innings. Houser (2-3) allowed five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in the win.
Sky Sox relievers Mike Zagurski and Tristan Archer closed out the game, as Colorado Springs' pitchers combined to retire 16 of the final 17 Dodgers batters of the night.
With the loss, the Dodgers (70-61) suffered their eighth shutout loss of the season and third of the month of August.
The Sky Sox (69-61) loaded the bases in the top of the second inning, but Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart got Colorado Springs pitcher Houser to strike out and Nate Orf to fly out to keep the game in a scoreless tie.
The Sky Sox then got on the scoreboard in the third inning, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly by Christian Bethancourt for a 1-0 lead.
The Sky Sox added to their lead in the fifth inning. Tyler Saladino led off with a single and moved to second base on a balk. Tyrone Taylor then hit a RBI single into left field before Domingo Santana followed with a RBI double for a 3-0 Sky Sox lead.
Saladino hit the first pitch he saw in the seventh inning out of the ballpark to left field for a solo homer and 4-0 Colorado Springs lead. Later with one out, Santana connected on a solo homer out to center field for a 5-0 Sky Sox lead.
Taylor added a two-run double in the eighth inning for a 7-0 lead for the Sky Sox, who went on to outhit the Dodgers, 15-5.
Oklahoma City pitcher Stewart (3-3) was hit with the loss, allowing three runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
The top two teams in the American Northern Division have five head-to-head games remaining and close out the regular season against one another in Colorado Springs Aug. 31-Sept. 3.
The Dodgers next open their final road trip of the regular season with a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs starting at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday at Principal Park.
