5 Things to Know About #SKCvFCD

Luchi vs. Vermes

Saturday will see a contrast on the sidelines as first-year head coach Luchi Gonzalez faces off with SKC's 11-season veteran coach Peter Vermes. Luchi has the edge this season with an 8-8-5 record to Vermes' 6-7-7, but the latter has the higher overall win percentage which stands at .549 to Gonzalez's .500.

Edwin Gyasi

On July 1, FC Dallas used TAM to sign midfielder Edwin Gyasi (pronounced "Jesse") on loan from Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia for one year. Gyasi, 28, had six goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances for CSKA. Born in the Netherlands to Ghanaian parents, Gyasi has earned five appearances for Ghana's national team. A pacey winger capable of playing along both flanks, FC Dallas has option to buy Gyasi's contract at end of season.

Hunt Legacy

Saturday's game will be a matchup of two clubs with strong ties to the Hunt family. Sporting Kansas City- then the Kansas City Wiz- was founded by Lamar Hunt in 1995 and operated by him and his son Clark until the franchise was sold in 2006. The Hunts purchased FC Dallas in 2003 during its Dallas Burn era and gave the club a new lease on life by building a soccer-specific stadium in Frisco, Texas and rebranding it FC Dallas.

Against Sporting Kansas City

Dallas vs. Kansas has been a curiously even matchup over the years. Dallas has an all-time record of 23-25-12 against its perennial Western Conference foe, with 91 goals scored and 92 conceded. However, Dallas has found Sporting KC a much tougher opponent when playing in Kansas City. FCD has 9-15-7 away record against SKC, and last season's 3-2 win at Children's Mercy Park was its first victory in Kansas City since 2011.

About Sporting Kansas City

Kansas City has had an up-and-down season and currently sits in 10th place in the West. Although it recently endured a six-game span that only yielded one win and culminated with a 5-1 loss to LAFC, Kansas City has turned it around of late with back-to-back shutout wins.
