Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have sold out the last six home games, welcoming a total of 48,617 fans to Mercer County Waterfront Park during the streak (8,103 per game).
The six game sellout streak is the organization's first since a seven game streak in 2003 when 7,531 fans attended per game between June 25-29 and July 4-5.
The current streak began on July 2 when what is now the third largest crowd in team history (9,002) came through the turnstiles. The next night, the Thunder set a new single game franchise attendance record of 9,212. On Thursday, July 14, the Thunder hosted 7,694 fans, followed by 7,549 on Friday, July 15. The tenth largest crowd in franchise history, 8,137, visited Waterfront Park on Saturday, July 16 and 7,023 attended on Sunday afternoon.
The official seating capacity at Waterfront Park is 6,150 with "standing room only" tickets available once the game is officially sold out.
"Trenton Thunder baseball is a hot ticket and we encourage fans to get their tickets in advance," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "Seats for multiple games this series have been sold out for weeks - long before there was any talk of Shane Victorino and Brad Lidge rehabbing in Trenton."
"Some fans have contacted me expressing their displeasure when we are out of seats," added Smith. "My advice is for fans to buy in advance and consider our mini-plans. We include tickets to the best games and they are loaded with added value!"
The Thunder have had 15 sellouts this season and have topped 7,000 fans nine times. In 2010, the team had 24 sellouts and 11 crowds over 7,000.
The Thunder currently rank 7th in total attendance out of the 90 Class A, Class A Advanced and Double A Minor League Baseball teams.
Over the Thunder's 47 games this season, the ballpark has on average been filled 92% to capacity. Currently, only four Major League Baseball teams have filled their ballpark at a higher percentage.
