
Six Run Inning Lifts Lakewood Past Delmarva

Salisbury, Md. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (33-31) scored six runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds (22-42) 10-5 on Wednesday night at Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds have one home game remaining on Thursday, August 30 at 7:05pm.
The Shorebirds struck first in the first inning. Gregory Lorenzo hit a home run to left field on the second pitch of the inning to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead.
Lakewood countered with three runs in the second. Stephen Malcolm hit a two run double with the bases loaded to give the 'Claws a 2-1 lead. Tim Carver lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to stretch the lead to 3-1.
The Shorebirds answered in the bottom of the third. Lorenzo led off with a single and Adrian Marin dropped a bunt single. Then, Connor Narron hit a two run double down the left field line to tie the game at 3-3.
In the fifth inning, the BlueClaws sent 11 batters to the plate and recorded six runs. Miguel Alvarez had a two run double in the inning. The Shorebirds defense also committed two errors in the frame.
The BlueClaws added a run in the sixth inning on a single by Willie Carmona and an error by Lucas Herbst, who over ran the ball in left field, allowing Maikel Franco to score from first.
The Shorebirds plated two runs in the eighth inning to trim the gap. Narron hit his second double of the game to open the inning. Michael Ohlman walked and Roderick Bernadina singled to load the bases. Herbst was then hit by a pitch to force in a run. Adam Davis followed with a sharp single to right field to cut the deficit to 10-5.
Lakewood starter Ethan Stewart earned the win over six innings while Shorebirds starter Eduardo Rodriguez was pinned with the loss over four innings. Rodriguez gave up nine hits and seven earned runs.
Jesse Beal tossed three strong innings of middle relief. He allowed three hits and no earned runs. David Baker and Bobby Wilkins each tossed scoreless innings of relief.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play the series finale and the final home game of the season on Thursday, August 30 at 7:05pm.
