Legends Welcome Author of Bluegrass Baseball: a Year in the Minor League Life

August 29, 2012 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky. ) Katya Cengel, author of Bluegrass Baseball: A Year in the Minor League Life, will sign books between games of the Lexington Legends' doubleheader at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Friday, August 31.

Cengel, a staff reporter with the Louisville Courier-Journal for eight years, has published in Esquire and the Wall Street Journal in her freelance career. She followed Kentucky's four minor league teams -- the Legends, the Louisville Bats, the Bowling Green Hot Rods, and the Florence Freedom -- through the 2010 season.

Bluegrass Baseball is a story of the minor league baseball lifestyle, from players' struggles and successes to the odd-but-entertaining ballpark promotions in a look at what the publisher calls the "unglamorous reality" of the minors. Pre-season preparations, including the Legends' national anthem tryouts held in February each year, are also part of the story.

"We're looking forward to having Katya with us Friday night," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "Minor league baseball really has a unique place in the sports and entertainment world, and it's great that she has focused on the Kentucky teams to provide that perspective."

The Legends will play the Rome Braves in two seven-inning games Friday. The first game begins at 5 p.m. For ticket information, visit www.lexingtonlegends.com or call the Legends' ticket office at (859) 422-7859.
