Six Captains Make the MWL All Star Team

(Eastlake, OH) - The Midwest League has announced their mid-season All Star teams and the Lake County Captains have six representatives on the Eastern Division squad. Pitchers Mike Rayl, Mike Goodnight and Clayton Ehlert will be joined by outfielder Anthony Gallas, catcher Alex Monsalve, and infielder Argenis Martinez at the All Star game on June 21 at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, IA which is the home of the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Rayl (4-1, 2.05), a 22 year old left hander out of Lake Worth, FL, has allowed one run or less in seven of his ten starts. Over his last six starts, 28.2 innings pitched, he has allowed five earned runs (1.57 ERA)

Goodnight (4-3, 2.37), is a 21 year old right hander from Houston, TX and has allowed one run or less in eight of his eleven starts. The Midwest League is batting only .173 against Goodnight.

Clayton Ehlert (1-2, 2.70 and 10 saves) is the Captains closer. The 23 year old Orange, TX native earned the save when the Captains threw a Home Opening Day No-Hitter on April 11 working the final two innings. He has allowed an earned run in only five of his 19 appearances.

Gallas, 23, is a graduate of Strongsville High School and Kent State University and will be a starter in the outfield at the game. He currently the Midwest League leader with 23 doubles and is tied for the league lead with 63 hits. He is currently second in the league with a .342 batting average, .565 slugging percentage and a .413 on base percentage.

Monsalve, a 19 years old catcher from Boqueron, Venezuela is hitting .286 which is second on the Captains behind Gallas. He has two home runs and twenty one RBI's. Monsalve is the reserve catcher on the All Star squad.

Martinez, a 21 year old slick fielding second baseman from Caracas, Venezuela will be a reserve infielder on the All Star team. Martinez has been a clutch offensive performer this season having driven in 18 RBI's which is five short of his total from the entire season last year. He is hitting .311 with runners in scoring position and .400 with runners in scoring position and two outs.

Captains manager Ted Kubiak will manage the team and will be assisted by Captains coaches Jim Rickon and Jeff Harris.

Last season the Captains sent five players to the Midwest League All Star game in Fort Wayne.
