South Bend, IN - Radio broadcaster Owen Serey and the South Bend Silver Hawks have teamed up with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America for a "Take Steps, Be Heard" fundraising walk to be held at Coveleski Stadium on Saturday, June 19th beginning at 2:00 PM.

Serey, who was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease while still in junior high, will be walking along with many other South Bend area residents who have been affected by either Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis.

"Hosting this walk at the Cove means a lot to me since I've dealt with Crohn's Disease for about 15 years now," Serey said. "The only way we're going to get closer to a cure is to raise awareness and money, and this walk is a big step in the right direction."

Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis affects roughly 1.4 million people (150,000 children) in the United States alone. As of yet, there is no known cure.

After only two successful years, CCFA's Take Steps Walk has raised over $13 million for research and patient service programs.

After a registration period beginning at 2:00 PM, the walk kicks off at 3:15 PM with participants walking around the outside of Coveleski Stadium. There will be various forms of entertainment, including a balloon artist and face painting for the children, with music playing through the stadium PA system during the walk.

Walk participants will receive a ticket for that night's game, as the Silver Hawks take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps after the walk, with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 PM.
