South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
The South Bend Silver Hawks and Indiana Outdoor News will host "Casting at the Cove" at Coveleski Stadium on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 to encourage fishing and other recreational activities in the area. Children can develop and hone their fishing skills during a clinic in the parking lot while organizations will have information available throughout the game.
The Silver Hawks take on the West Michigan White Caps at 7:30 p.m. (gates open at 6:00 p.m.)
The clinic will begin at 5:00 p.m. in Lot A and continue throughout the game. Children can learn how to cast and bait a hook, among other fishing basics. The lessons will be taught by various fishing organizations in the area, most notably the St. Joseph River Valley Fly Fishers and the Bass Anglers of Michiana.
Many different organizations will also have information on the concourse inside the stadium during the game. They will feature advice about how to join the respective groups as well as facts about conservation clubs. Different tables will feature fly-fishing, bass fishing, taxidermy, waterfowl conservation, and various other fishing-related hobbies.
The on-field promotions during the game will be geared towards fishing as well. These include casting the first pitch and games like "Net Swoop" and "Dress Like a Fisherman". Different products will also be displayed throughout the game, such as Shimano, G. Loomis, PowerPro, and Keystone RV.
Following the game there will be 4th of July Holiday Fireworks sponsored by 1st Source Bank and WNDU-TV. The display marks the first of four consecutive fireworks nights leading up to the 4th of July.
The Silver Hawks are currently in Midland, Mich. taking on the Great Lakes Loons as part of a nine game, ten-day road trip. The team returns home on June 18 for a three game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps before the Midwest League all-star break.
