LANSING, Mich. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (28-36) put together an explosive pair of late-inning rallies and swept the host Lansing Lugnuts (35-29) in a Tuesday night doubleheader on Jackson Field, 6-1 and 5-2.

Coupled with victories by Eastern Division foes Lake County and Great Lakes, the Lugnuts fell six games out of first place and five games out of a potential wild card berth with five games remaining in the first half.

The first place Captains clinched a playoff slot in their first year in the Midwest League.

In the opener, Kyle Spraker slugged a two-run double and Ty Morrison provided a two-run single to cap off a six-run sixth inning in support of Kyle Lobstein's complete game.

Lobstein (3-3) scattered eight hits while striking out six Lugnuts in the victory, reached for only a fourth inning Kevin Nolan sacrifice fly.

Lansing starter Matt Fields (1-2), activated from the DL earlier in the day, allowed four hits and three runs over 5 1/3 innings while striking out six.

Fields was done in by All-Star reliever Aaron Loup, who gave up a pair of inherited runs as well as three runs of his own on four hits in just 2/3 of an inning in the fateful sixth.

In the nightcap, Karim Turkamani's first career home run gave Lansing a 2-0 lead with three outs to go, but closer Steve Turnbull surrendered five runs in the seventh in his first blown save of the year in 17 opportunities.

Ryan Wiegand led off the seventh against Turnbull (1-3) with a slicing drive to left that eluded Eric Eiland's unwise sliding attempt, gifting Wiegand an inside-the-park home run that halved the deficit.

A Turnbull throwing error put Gabe Cohen on base; two batters later, pinch-hitter Brett Nommensen tied the score with an RBI single. Following a pinch-single by Mark Thomas, Morrison came through for a second time with a two-run triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Murrill to complete the rally.

Hot Rods reliever Matt Stabelfeld (3-1) pitched a perfect inning of relief to earn the win, while closer Scott Shuman stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to notch his eighth save.

The Lugnuts send right-hander Dave Sever (1-3, 3.89) on the mound on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. opposite Bowling Green southpaw Aaron Dott (1-2, 3.22) in the third game of the four-game series.

The Nuts return home on Tuesday, June 15th, for a doubleheader against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Tickets to all Lansing Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
