Shutout Snaps Win Streak at Five

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (18-16) were shut out by the Omaha Storm Chasers (16-18), ending their five-game winning streak with a 2-0 loss, Saturday at Principal Park.
Omaha got the scoring started in the top of the third, when Gabriel Cancel hit an RBI double to bring in Nick Pratto break the scoreless tie. From there, starters Cam Sanders and Jackson Kowar kept each opposing offense off the board.
Sanders spun 5.2 innings of one-run ball, tying his season high with nine strikeouts in his Triple-A debut. On the other side, Kowar tossed six scoreless frames, allowing just three hits and one walk compared to six strikeouts.
Cancel delivered for Omaha again in the top of the eighth, knocking his second RBI double of the game to pad the Storm Chasers' lead to 2-0. Brad Peacock, Jace Vines and Arodys Vizcaíno combined to throw three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit compared to four strikeouts to complete the shutout.
The 2-0 win marked Omaha's first of the series, ending Iowa's five game winning streak.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Cam Sanders made his Triple-A debut tonight, allowing just one run on two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. His 5.2 innings tied a season long for Iowa and nine strikeouts tied a season high for Sanders.
- Greg Deichmann recorded three of Iowa's four hits tonight, going 3-for-3 with three singles out of the eight-hole. It marked his second three-hit game of the season, with the first coming on April 12 against Toledo.
- In his 2022 season debut, Dakota Mekkes spun 1.1 scoreless frames, allowing just one hit.
