STAT OF THE NIGHT: Riley Hornback has reached base in 11 straight games with at least one hit in nine of the 11 games. After going without a home run over the first 57 games of his career, Hornback has two home runs in his last nine games.
PREVIEW: Following an off day on Tuesday, the Shorebirds gear up for a four-game series against the Hagerstown Suns (Nationals). The Shorebirds were swept by the Intimidators in their last series, just the fourth time this year that they have been swept. They are 3-4 this season in games following league wide off days. With 26 games remaining, the 'Birds are 10.5 games out of first.
TERRIFIC TOLLIVER: Ashur Tolliver hurled three more scoreless innings against Kannapolis on Monday night to increase his scoreless innings streak to 16 over his last eight outings. His ERA has dropped from 4.15 to 2.39 during the stretch. Over his last 22 innings pitched (since June 25), Tolliver has allowed just one earned run (0.40 ERA).
14-GAME ON BASE STREAK: Shorebirds catcher Michael Ohlman has reached base in a career high 14 consecutive games dating back to July 22. Ohlman has hit safely in seven of his last eight games played. He smacked his first homer since June 10 on Monday against Kannapolis.
KELLY AGAINST HAGERSTOWN: Ty Kelly has 19 hits and 12 RBIs in 13 games against Hagerstown. He is batting .373 against the Suns.
LEAD LEAGUE IN WALKS: The Shorebirds lead the SAL in walks with 426 on the season. The 'Birds are averaging 3.7 walks per game. Last season, the club averaged 3.1 walks per game.
AUGUST OFFENSE: The Shorebirds are averaging just three runs per game in the month of August. They have scored 24 runs in eight games. The Shorebirds are batting just .222, lowest in the South Atlantic League.
NO K'S: Joe Oliveira has not struck out in his last five games played. He has fanned only 16 times in 26 games played.
3 SHY OF 100: Ty Kelly has 97 career RBIs in a Shorebirds uniform. He had a team high 58 last season and he has 39 this season.
3RD CAREER 2-DOUBLE GAME: Mikey Planeta notched his first multi-double game of the season and third of his career on Monday against Kannapolis. The last time he had two doubles in one game was on August 25, 2009 while playing for the Bluefield Orioles.
2ND IN OUTFIELD ASSISTS: Brenden Webb ranks second in the SAL with 15 outfield assists on the season. Rafael Ortega of Asheville leads the league with 17.
STARK CONTRAST FOR NOEL: In 18 starts to begin the season, Luis Noel was 5-10 with a 5.75 ERA. He lost five of his last six starts. In five appearances out of the bullpen, Noel is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA. He has not allowed an earned run in his last four outings (8.0 IP).
