Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists 6-3 Wednesday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 1,683. A three run eighth inning for the Braves broke a 3-3 tie and helped Rome snap a six game losing skid. Game two of the series will be tomorrow at 7pm.
Chris Garcia (12) led off the bottom of the second with a solo homerun that put the Braves on top 1-0. Evan Gattis followed Garcia with a double to deep left center and would later score on an RBI single by Matt Weaver to make it a 2-0 Braves lead.
Christian Adames led off the top of the fifth for the Tourists with a single to right. After a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt Adames scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Chandler Laurent that cut Rome's lead to 2-1. Asheville would strike again in the top of the sixth for two more runs and take a 3-2 lead. After two walks and an error loaded the bases with no outs, a sacrifice fly by Adames and an RBI single by Joey Wong put Asheville on top.
Rome responded in the bottom of the sixth by also loading the bases with no outs and tying the game 3-3 on a sacrifice fly by Tommy La Stella. Still with a tie game in the bottom of the eighth Ryan Delgado delivered a two out go ahead RBI single that scored pinch runner Kyle Rose and give the Braves a 4-3 lead. Rome added two more runs to their lead later in the inning thanks to a throwing error by third baseman Joey Wong and took a comfortable 6-3 advantage into the ninth inning. Gus Schlosser shut the door in the top of the ninth with runners on second and third to send Rome to the clubhouse as 6-3 victors.
Gus Schlosser (2-0) earns the win for Rome and Isaiah Froneberger (1-1) takes the loss for Asheville.
Sean Gilmartin will make his Rome debut on the mound in game two of the four game series tomorrow at 7pm. Gilmartin was the Braves' first round draft pick in the June draft after pitching three years at Florida State University.
