Charleston 7

West Virginia 4

HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power dropped a 7-4 final to the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday evening. RiverDogs catcher Gary Sanchez hit two home runs and drove in four to lead the visitors to the win at Appalachian Power Park.

West Virginia took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Charleston starter Shane Greene. Drew Maggi and Andy Vasquez reached on singles to start the inning, and Mel Rojas Jr. tripled in both. After Justin Howard walked, Rojas Jr. scored on a ground out by Chase Lyles to build the Power advantage.

In the second, however, the RiverDogs plated two runs on four hits, keyed by Sanchez's first home run of the night. Charleston added three runs in the third to take the lead 5-3. Sanchez's second home run of Power starter Zac Fuesser was also of the two-run variety.

In the fourth, the RiverDogs scored an additional run against Power reliever Porfirio Lopez to extend the scoring at 6-3.

After the first inning, Greene settled in to retire 16 of the next 20 West Virginia batters. The Power didn't have multiple runners on base at the same time until the seventh inning when Greene's outing was coming to a close.

Charleston added a run in the top of the ninth to extend their lead to 7-3, and West Virginia loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, scoring once before the final out was recorded to cap the scoring.

Fuesser (3-5) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits over three innings. Greene (4-11) gained the win with six and six third innings of quality work. Kevin Mort and Maggi collected two hits each to pace the Power offense.

The Power and RiverDogs continue this series on Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Zach Dodson and Jose Ramirez are the slated starters for West Virginia and Charleston, respectively, with a 7:05 first pitch anticipated.

SECOND HALF RECORD: 19-26

OVERALL POWER RECORD: 54-59
