Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads shut out the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-0, before 888 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday night. The Crawdads are now 10-2 against Kannapolis this season.
The combined efforts of RHP Cody Buckel (W, 6-3) and RHP Ben Rowen (S, 2) kept the Intimidators (63-49, 26-18) off the scoreboard for the 'Dads seventh shutout win of the season. Buckel dealt the first six scoreless frames, striking out six batters while allowing only two hits. Rowen shut the door with the final three innings, surrendering only one hit and one walk, while striking out four.
Hickory (66-47, 26-19) struck for its first two runs in the bottom of the third inning against LHP Spencer Arroyo (L, 8-8). SS Jurickson Profar sparked the charge with a one-out double, and quickly stole his way to third base. After 2B Odubel Herrera worked a walk, 3B Christian Villanueva placed an RBI infield single to plate Profar for the 1-0 lead. A double steal attempt resulted in Herrera being thrown out at third, but Villanueva reached second on the play. 1B Andrew Clark belted an RBI double to center, bringing in Villanueva to make it 2-0.
Profar added to the lead when he belted the first pitch of the third inning over the left field wall, stretching the lead to 3-0. Hickory put the finishing touches on the attack with its final run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Profar led off by being hit by a pitch, before swiping his second base of the game to get to scoring position. A ground out from Herrera moved Profar to third, and then an RBI ground out by Villanueva brought him in the final ninety feet.
With one scoreless inning already dealt in his relief outing, Rowen struck out four of the final seven batters he faced in the eighth and ninth innings, closing the 4-0 shutout win for Hickory.
