CHARLESTON, W.Va. - *Gary Sanchez drilled a pair of two-run home runs and Shane Greene threw 6.2 solid innings, as the RiverDogs cut the West Virginia Power, 7-3, in South Atlantic League action at Appalachian Power Park Wednesday evening.

With the victory, Charleston improves to 19-26, 45-70 overall, while West Virginia dipped to 19-26, 54-59 overall.

West Virginia lit the flame in the bottom of the first off Greene, scoring three times in assuming a 3-0 lead. Mel Rojas, Jr. roped a two-run triple to straightaway centerfield, while Chase Lyles brought him home with a RBI groundout.

Charleston came right back with two runs in the second against Power starter Zac Fuesser, as Gary Sanchez drilled an opposite-field homer to right - a two-run bomb for his team-best 16th of the year - cutting the deficit to the 3-2.

The Dogs put up three more in the third inning, taking their first lead at 5-3. Shane Brown reached on an error, Kevin Mahoney was hit by a pitch, and a passed ball put runners at second and third. Kelvin De Leon contributed a RBI groundout to level the score at 3-3, but it was Sanchez who untied the score with his second two-run homer of the contest and 17th of the year for a 5-3 advantage.

Fuesser (3-5) lasted just 3.0 innings, allowing five runs - two earned - on five hits, while fanning four.

Brown added a two-out RBI single in the fourth off West Virginia reliever Porfirio Lopez, upping the margin to 6-3 Dogs.

That lead lasted until the ninth, when it was Brown again providing the run with a two-out RBI single off Victor Black that scored Eduardo Sosa -- who doubled the pitch before - making Charleston's lead 7-3.

West Virginia fought back in the bottom half, loading the bases off closer Mark Montgomery, with Andy Vasquez driving home a run with a single to left to make the count 7-4, but Montgomery induced a game-ending groundout from Rojas to leave the bags full and clinch the Charleston win.

Greene (4-11) was remarkable after the three-run first, giving up just two hits in his last 5.2 innings, while walking three and punching out four. The 6'4" right-hander permitted just one runner into scoring position after the initial stanza in winning his first road start since May 3.

Game two of the series on Thursday is set for a 7:05 p.m. start time, with Charleston right-hander Jose Ramirez (5-6, 5.05 ERA), while West Virginia counters with left-hander Zach Dodson (3-3, 3.10 ERA).
