Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Lexington, KY - Taylor Rogers became the first Augusta GreenJackets starting pitcher this season to fire a complete game, holding the Lexington Legends to just four hits in a 5-0 win in the opener of a four-game series between the teams on Wednesday night. The win is Augusta's fifth straight.
Rogers received all the run support he'd need in the first two innings as Augusta scored all five of their runs and picked up seven of their nine hits in the game during the first two frames against Lexington starter Tanner Bushue. In the first, Josh Mazzola doubled home Chris Lofton to give the GreenJackets the early 1-0 edge.
The GreenJackets sent eight to the plate and scored four more times to pad the lead for Rogers in the second. Bobby Haney's RBI single moved the lead to 2-0 while Lofton stepped up with two outs in the inning and doubled home another run on his second double of the night to push the lead to three runs. Ryan Lollis followed with a two-run double to move the GreenJackets out to a 5-0 lead.
Rogers (8-9) picked up just his second win of the second half and Augusta's fifth shutout win of year with the victory. In nine shutout innings, Rogers surrendered just four hits and a walk while striking out four. Rogers retired the first 11 hitters of the game. The seventh inning is the only time he had multiple runners on against him at the same time and he got his team-leading 20th double play turned behind him to wipe the bases clean in the eighth.
A pair of Lexington relievers - Murilo Gouvea and Gabriel Garcia - held the GreenJackets scoreless on just two hits over the final seven innings, but the Legends couldn't crack Rogers to get back into the game.
The GreenJackets send Mike Kickham (3-7, 4.81) to the mound on Thursday night in search of their sixth straight win as Lexington will counter with Mike Foltynewicz (5-8, 4.28). First pitch from Lexington comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
