Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - The Greensboro Grasshoppers took it to the Lakewood BlueClaws in the opener of their 4 game series on Wednesday night. The Grasshoppers won it 8-2 as they pounded out 10 hits including 3 Home Runs. Lakewood fell behind early trailing 7-0 after 4 innings, and they just could never get back in the game.
The Grasshoppers hitters got to Lakewood starter Lisalberto Bonilla early and often. Bonilla allowed 7 runs on 8 hits over 3.1 innings. Bonilla had only allowed 4 HR's all year coming into the game in which he allowed 3 long balls to Greensboro. Mike McGuire made his 2011 BlueClaws debut throwing 1.2 scoreless innings. He did allow 1 inherited runner to score in the 4th, but overall he pitched well in his first game with Lakewood this season. Mario Hollands was great again for Lakewood tossing 2 perfect innings of relief.
Offensively, it was a quiet night for the BlueClaws. Five different guys had 1 hit games, and that was it. Bill Rice had a double and a run scored out of the leadoff spot, and the #9 hitter Edgar Duran had a hit and a run scored as well. Carlos Alonso and Zach Collier each chipped in with a hit and an RBI a piece. Domingo Santana had Lakewood's only other hit.
Lakewood will remain 2.5 games out of First Place in the SAL Northern Division with the loss by 1st place Kannapolis to Hickory. But, Hickory is now just 1/2 game of 1st place themselves. Tomorrow, Lakewood will send out LHP Ervis Manzanillo (7-5, 5.32 ERA) for game 2, and Greensboro will counter with RHP Kyle Winters (7-3 4.50 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Thursday.
