Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds, class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will host "Shorebirds Community Fund Weekend" from August 16 through August 19 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium during Shorebirds games against the Hagerstown Suns.

The Shorebirds Community Fund, which was created in 2009, is designed to help fund local community projects, with a focus on youth centers and youth sports. Each season, the Delmarva Shorebirds donate thousands of dollars in merchandise and tickets to non-profit organizations, and now, thanks to the support of the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, the team is able to raise cash funds, which will all be put back into the community in the form of cash donations.

On Thursday, August 16, the Shorebirds are holding a "Chinese Auction" where fans will have the chance to purchase raffle tickets and win some great prizes that will include a 2011 South Atlantic League All-Star Game watch, 2008 Shorebirds autographed team bat, Jake Arrieta autographed picture and Chris Hoiles autographed baseball.

On Saturday, August 18, the Shorebirds have organized a silent auction. Some of the items that fans will be able to bid on include a 2011 autographed Nick Markakis authentic jersey, 2011 SAL All-Star Game autographed Earl Weaver jersey, Adam Jones autographed photo and a Brian Roberts autographed bat. The auction table will be located on the second level concourse, across from the Shorebirds Flock Shop.

The final event will be the fifth annual Float for the Fund Night on Sunday, August 19. Fans will have the chance to purchase a customized Shorebirds mug featuring Dylan Bundy, Nicky Delmonico, Parker Bridwell, Connor Narron and Jason Esposito for just $5. The mug is good for unlimited root beer floats all game long.

All the proceeds from the three events will directly benefit youth sports and community projects on the Eastern Shore through donations and ancillary support from the Shorebirds Community Fund.

"We have a tremendous platform in this community to help and through the Shorebirds Community Fund, we hope to continue to bolster youth organizations locally," said Shorebirds GM Chris Bitters. "I look forward to these three Community Foundation events over the weekend and using the funds that will be raised to help the next generation of athletes."
