Hickory Crawdads News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - After the Hickory Crawdads tied it in the top of the ninth, the Hagerstown Suns responded with a run in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off 4-3 win, before 1,106 fans at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown on Tuesday night.
The Crawdads (27-24, 64-56) got out to a quick start with an early lead against RHP Brian Rauh. With two down in the top of the second, C Kellin Deglan launched a solo home run over the center-field fence, lifting Hickory to the 1-0 lead.
LHP Will Lamb kept the 'Dads in front through the first 4.1 innings of his start, no-hitting the Suns over that stretch. However, Hagerstown (28-22, 70-49) tied it in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one down, 1B Justin Miller doubled his way on, before coming home on an RBI double by DH Brett Newsome, evening the score, 1-1.
The Suns moved in front with two more in the bottom of the sixth. After CF Billy Burns worked a one-out walk, SS Bryce Ortega laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a miscue on the play. 2B Cutter Dykstra then bounced a grounder to third that was misplayed by 3B Drew Robinson, loading the bases with one away. C Adrian Nieto worked an RBI walk, before Miller bounced an RBI ground out to move Hagerstown ahead, 3-1.
Hickory RHP Taylor Dennis logged a pair of scoreless innings, before the 'Dads bats came back in the top of the ninth. Facing LHP Christian Meza, Robinson led off with a double to the right-field corner. After a strikeout, RF Trever Adams laced a base hit to right field, putting runners at the corners. Meza dealt another strikeout, but 1B Jorge Alfaro placed an RBI infield single to bring in Robinson. Suns SS Bryce Ortega fielded the Alfaro single and tried to end the game by retiring Adams at second, but he fired wide, enabling Adams to make it all the way to third on the play. With RHP Richie Mirowski (W, 3-1) taking over on the mound, pinch hitter Alejandro Selen drove an RBI single to center field, scoring Adams to tie the game, 3-3.
The Suns, however, responded right away against RHP Santo Perez (L, 3-9) in the bottom of the ninth. With one down, Newsome singled his way on, and then raced all the way home on an RBI double by RF J.R. Higley, lifting the Suns to the 4-3 walk-off win.
