Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - Denny McLain, the last major league pitcher to win 30 games in a single season, will appear Wednesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium at the GreenJackets game against the Lakewood BlueClaws.
McLain will be appearing to promote his new book, "31-6" and upcoming reality show. He will throw out a first pitch, appear on the GreenJackets radio broadcast and be available to greet fans for autographs and pictures throughout the evening.
In his ten year major league career, McLain posted a 131-91 record with his best year unquestionably coming during the Detroit Tigers 1968 World Series championship season. McLain won 31 games that year for the Tigers - an almost unthinkable mark by today's standards - while winning his first of back-to-back Cy Young Awards. McLain was also named the American League's Most Valuable Player that season.
Copies of McLain's newest book will be available for purchase at the ballpark tomorrow night as part of the event. The GreenJackets will be finishing their three-game series with the Lakewood BlueClaws with first pitch will coming at 7:05 p.m. and radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com. Gates open at 6 p.m. Single-game tickets for any home game can currently be obtained by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
