Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville broke out the bats early and Danny Winkler cruised to his ninth win of the year in the Tourists 5-2 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs Tuesday night. The T's scored three times in the first inning and Winkler picked up his first win in the second half of the season.

Sam Mende grounded out with Trevor Story at third to put Asheville in front 1-0. After Taylor Featherston singled, Jordan Ribera doubled him in. Then he later scored on Jared Simon's first inning double.

Charleston used a solo Home Run by Ali Castillo in the third to cut Asheville's lead to 3-1, but Featherston immediately answered with a solo Home Run that kicked the lead back out to three runs. Ryan Casteel provided some additional insurance with an RBI double in the fourth.

The game remained 5-1 up until the ninth inning. Dante Bichette Jr. singled home Ben Gamel from second, but the visitors were unable to come any closer as Saxon Butler grounded out to end the game.

Winkler went six innings and Tyler Gagnon made his McCormick Field debut with a scoreless seventh. One bright spot for the RiverDogs was reliever Charlie Short. The right-hander pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three.

Asheville goes for the series sweep on Wednesday; the final regular season meeting between the Tourists and the RiverDogs in 2012.
