
Ohlman Leads 6-1 Shorebirds Win in Game Two

Kannapolis, NC - After falling 6-2 in the completion of a suspended game from June 24, the Delmarva Shorebirds (20-31) used four RBIs by Michal Ohlman and a strong spot start from Eric Wooten to down the Kannapolis Intimidators in game two, 6-1, at CMC-Northeast Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators picked up a suspended game from June 24 with no score in the bottom of the fourth.
The Shorebirds got on the board in the seventh. Mychal Givens connected on his second homer of the season, a line drive to left field. It was his first homer since April 19.
In the eighth inning, the Shorebirds tacked on a run to build a 2-0 lead. Wynston Sawyer hit a single to left field to start the inning. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mikey Planeta. Sawyer moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Mychal Givens.
Parker Bridwell held the Intimidators scoreless over his first four innings. The Intimidators scored six runs, five earned, in the eighth inning. Joey DeMichele led off with a double down the left field line. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Mark Haddow hit a two-run double and Kannapolis took a 3-2 lead as Courtney Hawkins also came into score as the throw home kicked away from Sawyer. Kannapolis took a 4-2 lead on a misplayed ball at short by Sammie Starr. Then, Leighton Pangilinan capped the inning with a two run homer to right field.
Daniel Webb earned the win over two innings including a perfect ninth inning. He allowed just one hit.
Bobby Wilkins replaced Bridwell in the eighth inning and got all three outs.
In game two, the Shorebirds jumped to an early lead. Glynn Davis led off the game with a double to deep left field. With two outs, Michal Ohlman lifted a home run over the left field wall to put the Shorebirds in front 2-0.
Kannapolis cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the second. Leighton Pangilinan lifted a sacrifice fly to score Bill Rice.
The Shorebirds tacked on a run in the third on a two out single to left field by Ohlman to score Sammie Starr, who hit a one out double.
In the fifth inning, the Shorebirds put the game out of reach with three runs. Starr hit a two out double. Then, Planeta extended his hit streak to eight games with a double to right-center to increase the lead to 4-1. Ohlman followed with his third hit and fourth RBI to give the Shorebirds a 5-1 lead. Connor Narron chopped a single through the left side of the infield to extend the lead to 6-1.
Eric Wooten earned his second win over five strong innings. He yielded just four hits and one run. Wooten retired nine of the final ten batters he faced.
Gene Escat entered in the sixth and tossed two perfect innings. The combination of Wooten and Escat retired 15 of the final 16 batters.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play the series finale on Wednesday, August 15 at 7:05pm.
