Worcester Sharks News Release
Worcester- A four goal second period for the Senators spelled doom for Worcester as the Sharks fell 5-2 at the DCU Center on Wednesday night.
Former Senator Ryan Vesce would pick up his 21st score of the season as he gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when he crashed the net on Binghamton net minder Jeff Glass to score a power play goal at 9:42.
Worcester goaltender Taylor Dakers would make an impressive glove save on a shot from inside the crease to maintain the Worcester lead. Glass would make several fine saves as he denied Tom Cavanagh a goal on a loose puck in the crease with a sprawling pad save to keep the score within one.
The Senators would then turn up the heat as Jarrett Konkle and Matt Pope scored their first goals of the year as part of a four-goal 2nd period.
Binghamton came out firing just :28 seconds into the second frame the Senators would score a power play equalizer as center Zach Smith fired a shot that would deflect off Dakers and into the back of the net. Binghamton would then take a 2-1 advantage after left wing Denis Hamel and Konkle went two on one against Brendan Buckley which allowed for Konkle to score at 14:33.
Matt Pope would sweep around from the back of the Worcester net to fire a wrist shot on Dakers to extend the lead 3-1 1:14 later. The Senators were not done in the 2nd as Marc Cavosie would clean up the rebound of a Thomas Kudelka rap-around attempt to go up 4-1 at 17:54.
The Sharks would close the deficit in the 3rd when P.J. Fenton's rap-around attempt was backhanded in by Andrew Desjardins and trimmed the lead to 4-2 at 10:59. However, the Senators would match the goal moments later with a backhanded shot by Greg Mauldin at 11:47 which brought the score to 5-2.
The Sharks would outshoot Binghamton 16-3 in the third period, 39-27 through 60 minutes..
