NYPL Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Shane's Strong Start Helps Scrappers to 2-0 Victory

August 12, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Coming back home after a sweep from State College, the Scrappers (23-27) desperately needed to get back in the win column against the Renegades (23-28), and did so with a 2-0 win.

The Scrappers climbed out early and scored in the bottom of the first. Willi Castro hit his second triple of the season to the right field corner. Ka'ai Tom drove him in with a double to the right field corner.

The Scrappers added one more in the fifth. Silento Sayles reached on a bunt single, and he later scored on a Tom sacrifice fly to center.

Casey Shane dominated. He went six innings giving up just three hits, while walking three and striking out three. Shane's ERA sits right below a three at 2.98. Dominic DeMasi came in for the final three innings and gave up two hits, but no runs.

The Scrappers snapped their three-game losing streak, and have now won four of their last seven at Eastwood Field.

Mahoning Valley turns to Jared Robinson on Thursday night to keep things going. Robinson was stellar in his last start against Batavia. He went seven innings and struck out seven. The Scrappers needed a strong performance out of their starter, and will look for that again on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05.
