Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Niles, OH (8/12/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Mahoning Valley Scrappers by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Eastwood Field.
The Scrappers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as shortstop Willi Castro tripled to lead off the inning and scored on left fielder Ka'ai Tom's RBI double.
Hudson Valley had the bases loaded in the top of the third inning with one out after left fielder Jose Paez singled, catcher Josh Rapacz was hit by a pitch and second baseman Jake Cronenworth walked. But Mahoning Valley's starting pitcher Casey Shane (2-3) induced Renegades shortstop Michael Russell into an inning ending double play to end the threat.
Mahoning Valley's center fielder Silento Sayles and Castro each singled in the bottom of the fifth inning and both moved up a base later in the inning on a wild pitch. With one out, Tom drove in Sayles on a RBI sacrifice fly, giving the Scrappers a 2-0 lead.
That ended the night for Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Angel Yepez (4-2) as he gave up a pair of runs off five hits in the loss after four and two-thirds innings of work.
Shane earned the win for the Scrappers as he allowed three hits and did not give up a run in six innings pitched. Dominic DeMasi picked up his first save of the season for Mahoning Valley as he scattered two hits in three scoreless innings of relief.
With the result, the Renegades saw their record fall to 23-28 while Mahoning Valley improves to 23-27.
Notes: Relief pitcher Tyler Brashears made his Hudson Valley debut on Wednesday evening as he came in relief of Angel Yepez in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Torrance, California native tossed two and a third shutout innings and scattered just one hit. Brashears, who was the Tampa Bay Rays 2015 14th Round draft pick, was promoted to Hudson Valley earlier in the week after starting the year off with the Gulf Coast Rays.
The Renegades continued their three-game series against Mahoning Valley on Thursday, August 13th with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Hudson Valley returns to Dutchess Stadium as they host the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday, August 15th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Saturday is "Saturday Night Live Night" and fans can enjoy a fireworks show after the game. Call 845-838-0094, or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
