Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) scored five early runs to back a dominant Luis Severino on Saturday night and coasted to a 7-1 victory over the Gwinnett Braves at PNC Field. The RailRiders (40-30) have won seven of their last nine while the Braves (31-38) fell for the fourth time in five games.

Severino (3-0) authored a career-best 8.1 innings on the mound and took a no-hitter into the sixth before yielding his only run. He limited the G-Braves to three hits, three walks and he struck out five. Chris Ellis (0-1) was hit for five runs on five hits in his Triple-A debut. The right-hander recorded two outs and was lifted after issuing his second walk in the opening stanza.

Donovan Solano jump-started the offense with a one-out single to bring up Aaron Judge. The mammoth-sized slugger blasted his team-leading 10th home run, and third in seven games, out to right for a 2-0 lead. Gary Sanchez kept the pressure turned up with a sharp double to right. Jake Cave followed with a single and Tyler Austin scored Sanchez with a double to right for a 3-0 advantage.

A sacrifice fly to left by Cesar Puello provided Ellis a second out, but scored Cave. Pete Kozma reached after getting hit with an errant pitch and Dan Fiorito walked to load the bases. Cycling back around, Ben Gamel walked to force in Austin and a 5-0 lead. Reliever Rob Wooten finished the inning for Gwinnett.

Judge worked a walk off Wooten to begin the second inning. With Sanchez batting, Judge stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Blake Lalli. Sanchez brought him in with a fly ball to left for a 6-0 advantage.

Severino took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but Matt Lipka tripled to the wall in right to halt the bid. Ozzie Albies broke up the shutout with a grounder to short that scored Lipka for Gwinnett's only tally.

SWB capped the scoring in the seventh when Sanchez stroked his second double and scored on a triple by Cave.

The RailRiders look for the series win against the G-Braves on Sunday, June 19. First pitch at PNC Field is set for 1:05 p.m. Left-hander Phil Coke (3-1, 1.54) gets the nod against former RailRider Joel De La Cruz (1-1, 5.48).
