Pigs, Bisons Split Day-Night Doubleheader

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (39-30) and Buffalo Bisons (36-33) split a day-night doubleheader on Saturday at Coca-Cola Park. Buffalo won game one by a score of 3-1 while the Pigs took game two by a 10-4 count.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (3-4, 4.91) gets the ball for the IronPigs against Bisons LHP Wade LeBlanc (7-2, 1.51).

Game One

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs had their chances, but fell short in a 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Bisons in game one of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.

The Pigs left 10 men on base in the game.

Taylor Featherston's RBI single cut the lead to 3-1 for the IronPigs in the bottom of the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but RHP Ryan Tepera (1.1 IP, H, R, ER, BB, K) got J.P. Crawford to line to center and end the game.

Tepera notched his ninth save of the season.

Buffalo took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth as Jesus Montero plated a run via an RBI single and Junior Lake knocked home a run with an RBI groundout.

Both runs were charged to Pigs starter Reinier Roibal (0-2) who gave up the two runs on two hits while walking two and fanning three in 3.2 IP.

The Pigs had runners at first and second with two outs in the sixth, but Bisons starter Drew Hutchison fanned Brock Stassi to end the inning.

Hutchison (4-3) allowed four hits to go along with a walk and 10 strikeouts over six innings of work.

Matt Dominguez's solo shot off of RHP Frank Herrmann (1.1 IP, H, R, ER, 3 K) in the top of the eighth opened up a 3-0 lead for Buffalo.

In the home half of the frame, the IronPigs had the bases loaded with one out, but Pat Venditte fanned Stassi and Tepera got Cedric Hunter swinging to end the inning.

RHP Gregory Infante (3.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 4 K) and LHP Jeremy Bleich (1.0 IP, K) each had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

David Lough (2-3, BB) and Nick Williams (2-4, 3B) each had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.

Game Two

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs scored 10 runs on 16 hits in a 10-4 win over the Buffalo Bisons in the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Six different IronPigs had multi-hit games: Carlos Alonso (2-4, RBI), Emmanuel Burriss (2-5, 3B, RBI, R), Andrew Knapp (2-5, 2B, RBI), Cam Perkins (2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Darin Ruf (3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) and Nick Williams (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R).

A three-run first opened up an early 3-0 lead for the IronPigs. Perkins and Williams reached with back-to-back one out singles before Ruf plated both with a two-run double. Ruf came around to score later in the inning on an RBI triple from Burriss.

The Bisons cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the second as Junior Lake drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a fly out and scored on David Adams' RBI single.

Three more runs in the home half of the second gave the Pigs a 6-1 lead as four straight two-out doubles from Taylor Featherston, Perkins, Williams and Ruf accounted for the runs in the inning with the latter three all knocking home a run.

Alexi Casilla's solo shot off of Lehigh Valley starter James Russell brought Buffalo within 6-2 in the top of the third.

Burriss led off the bottom of the third with a single, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on David Lough's RBI single to open up a 7-2 advantage for the IronPigs.

Ruf reached with a two-out single in the fourth and scored from first on Knapp's RBI double to extend the Lehigh Valley lead to 8-2.

A pair of runs in the fifth brought the Bisons within 8-4 as Lake and Jesus Montero each came through with RBI singles. Later in the frame, Buffalo had the bases loaded with two outs, but Russell got Adams to ground into a force out and end the inning.

Russell (2-2) allowed four runs on eight hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts in 5.0 IP.

In the bottom of the fifth, Darnell Sweeney led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored when Featherston flied into a force out on a bloop single that fell in shallow center to open up a 9-4 lead for the Pigs.

Bisons starter Scott Diamond (4-7) gave up the nine runs (eight earned) on 14 hits while fanning seven over five innings of work.

Sweeney drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on Alonso's RBI double to make it a 10-4 game in favor of the Pigs.

RHP Luis Garcia (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) and RHP Edubray Ramos (2.0 IP, 2 H, K) each had a scoreless outing in relief for Lehigh Valley.
