Rochester Red Wings News Release
TOLEDO, OH - Logan Darnell allowed one run over 7.0 innings to earn his league-leading eighth win while Jorge Polanco and John Ryan Murphy each drove in two runs as the Rochester Red Wings beat the Toledo Mud Hens 5-1 in front of 11,800 fans Saturday night at Fifth Third Field.
Darnell (8-5) earned his 13th decision in as many starts by scattering four hits and two walks while striking out a season-high six batters.
The Red Wings (41-28) struck first against Mud Hens (30-38) lefty Matt Crouse (1-2) as Polanco doubled in two runs with an opposite field two-run double with two outs in the third. Toledo would get a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Dean Green.
The game remained 2-1 until Rochester loaded the bases with one out in the seventh thanks in large part to a Jordany Valdespin error. Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-1 with an unearned run.
Marcus Walden took over for Darnell and worked around a one-out single to toss a scoreless frame.
Wilfredo Tovar started the ninth with one of the more impressive Red Wings at-bats of the season, fouling off five two-strike pitches and six total in the plate appearance, before doubling to left on the 11th pitch. He moved to third on a ground out. Buck Britton was intentionally walked to fill first base and Murphy followed with his second RBI of the night, a single to right, to score Tovar. James Beresford followed with a single to plate Britton and Rochester extended its lead to 5-1.
Toledo put the first two men of the ninth on with singles off of J.T. Chargois but the Mud Hens were not able to advance either runner.
