June 18, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

On a stellar Saturday night for baseball, the sellout crowd at Fifth Third Field witnessed the International League leading Rochester Red Wings pick up their 41st win, as they defeated the Toledo Mud Hens, 5-1.

Toledo's Matt Crouse dropped his second game of the season, despite a strong outing in which he allowed only four hits and two earned runs through seven innings of work. Crouse struck out three batters throughout the game, with two of the K's coming in the first inning. The southpaw's counterpart was Logan Darnell, who earned his eighth win of the season. Darnell went seven innings while only allowing one run off of four hits and striking out six on a night which featured six innings of stress-free pitching.

Rochester's John Ryan Murphy, who ripped a one out single to left field and Logan Schafer, who worked an eight pitch walk, came around to score and make it 2-0 in the third inning after Jorge Polanco dished up a two out double to right field.

Toledo's Dixon Machado led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a double courtesy of Rochester's Buck Britton misreading a line drive to left field. Three batters later, Machado found himself on third base with Dean Green at the plate, and Green continued on his RBI tear, as he came in leading all of minor league baseball with 72 RBIs for Erie, with a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Machado and make it 2-1.

The Red Wings manufactured an insurance run off of Crouse in the top of the seventh when Murphy lofted a sacrifice fly to centerfield plating Eddie Rosario to make it 3-1.

Toledo's Drake Britton pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball but was relieved in the ninth for Angel Nesbitt. Nesbitt allowed a one out double to Wilfredo Tovar who eventually came around to score thanks to a Murphy RBI single to right field. Next up was James Beresford who ripped a single to left field plating Buck Britton, who had been intentionally walked earlier in the inning, making it 5-1 Rochester.

Toledo looks to win the rubber match against Rochester tomorrow night, as they send Thad Webber to the mound with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch.

Toledo Tidbits:

Same Team, Different Names- Dixon Machado and Jordany Valdespin, who started Saturday night, join Argenis Diaz and Miguel Gonzalez as the only Mud Hens' position players who still remain from the beginning of the 2016 season. Just this week, Detroit summoned Steven Moya and Casey McGehee to join the big league team and Chad Huffman went on the DL with a groin strain.

Mean Dean Green- Dean Green has been on an absolute tear thus far in the 2016 season with the Erie SeaWolves in AA, as he has hit .286 with 16 home runs and 72 runs batted in, to lead all of minor league baseball. The 26-year-old Tulsa native was drafted by the Tigers in the 11th round in 2011, and in 23 games with Toledo in 2015, Green hit .253 with one home run. Green finished Saturday's game going 2-3 with two singles and an RBI.

All-Star Game Voting- Triple-A All-Star Game voting is under way and your Toledo Mud Hens need YOUR votes. Send the likes of heavy-hitting Chad Huffman, the sure handed Dixon Machado, and the dominant Hen pen partners Preston Guilmet and Bruce Rondon. All-Star Game voting will remain open until June 26.
