April 7, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead the second straight night, but can't hold onto the lead losing to the Alaska Aces 5-2. Even though eliminated from the playoffs the Grizz still fought Alaska to the end.
For the second straight night the Grizzlies came out of the gate strong getting six shorthanded chances alone in the first period. The shorthanded chances led to a 1-0 lead with Matt Craig scoring on a breakaway for his 14th of the season, just over 13 minutes in. Just over three minutes later Olivier Filion of Alaska connected for the equalizer for his 28th of the year.
The Aces came out firing in the second period taking a commanding lead. Alaska gained a 2-1 lead on Joe Talbot's 26th of the season, 8:41 into the second. Joe's brother Julian increased the lead to 3-1 just 35 seconds later. Then, Olivier Filion just over two minutes later put home his second of the game giving the Aces a 4-1 lead.
The Grizzlies fought hard to start the period leading to Bill Kinkel's sixth of the year just under nine minutes in. On Kinkel's goal, Danny Stewart and Brian Deeth received assists. It is Danny's sixth point in 6 games and Deeth's first professional point. Alaska ended the Grizz comeback opening up a 5-2 lead with Florian Iberer's third of the year with just over five minute left.
Rob McVicar stopped 32 of 37 shots.
The Grizzlies conclude their 2006-2007 regular season Saturday night in Anchorage. Face-off is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
