Lynx finish regular season with loss to Florida
April 7, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Estero, FL - The Florida Everblades clinched the ECHL South Division with a 6-2 win over the Augusta Lynx on Saturday night to round out the regular season.
A four-goal first period made the hometown fans happy as Florida received goals from Adam Taylor, Vince Bellissimo, Jonathan Lehun and Brad Zancanaro through 20 minutes of play.
A.J. Bucchino entered his first pro game to start the second period in net for the Lynx, as Nathan Marsters finished the night with five saves on nine shots. The rookie netminder made several solid reaction saves early, stopping 14-of-15 shots faced in the frame and surrendering only a rebound goal to Lehun at 11:02.
At the other end of the ice, Augusta broke through on the Everblades at 16:09. Garett Bembridge and Aaron Slattengren won a battle along the left wing boards, with Slattengren moving out in front of the goal on the backhand and feeding a perfect pass to J.B. Bittner to make it 5-1 after 40 minutes.
Steve Czech and Aaron Slattengren would trade third period goals en route to the 6-2 final score.
Bucchino finished with 23 saves on the night with no decision, while Craig Kowalski turned aside 31 shots for the win.
Augusta now will face the Checkers in Charlotte to open a best-of-three playoff round Monday night. Further details will be available Monday on the Lynx official web site www.augustalynx.com, including ticket information.
