Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Dayton, OH - Tyler Goeddel had four singles on Friday night at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-0, 39-32) to a 9-8 win over the Dayton Dragons (0-1, 30-41). In the opening game to the second half of the season, Jake Hager added three hits, and Ryan Carpenter allowed three earned runs in five frames to earn his seventh win. The victory places the Hot Rods at seven games over .500, tying the season's high-water mark.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the second the Hot Rods used a two-out rally to tie the score at three apiece. Matt Rice lined a single up the middle to start the rally and then was driven by Cameron Seitzer on a double to deep right-centerfield. Tyler Goeddel then singled to place runners at first and third. Goeddel's single was then followed by a Jake Hager RBI-single to tie the score.
Once again trailing in the contest, the Hot Rods plated two runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good. Rice again started a two-out rally, reaching first base on an infield single. That was again followed by a Seitzer double, and Rice scored on wild pitch to the next batter, Goeddel, to tie it 4-4. Goeddel then singled to left field to score Seitzer to give the Hot Rods a 5-4 advantage.
Both teams scored four times in their respective eighth innings, but Austin Hubbard came on to record a four-out save for the Hot Rods. Hubbard's team-leading eighth of the season preserved Bowling Green's one-run victory, just the third one-run win on the road this season for the Hot Rods.
Continuing their three-game series at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, the Hot Rods and the Dragons square off on Saturday night at 6:07 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will send RHP Parker Markel (1-4, 5.27) to the mound to face Dayton's RHP Daniel Tuttle (1-3, 5.03). Tune in to the game on 1340-AM "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 5:47 PM CDT.
