Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - After not sniffing the .500 mark in the entire first-half of the Midwest League season, the LumberKings needed one game to get over the mark in the second half. Clinton dispatched Kane County, 6-1 on Friday night in front of 5,133 fans at Ashford University Field.

Since May 30, Clinton starting pitchers held an ERA of 7.34 but Trevor Miller paid no attention to that as he allowed one unearned run on two hits in seven innings. He picked up his fourth win of the year and dropped his ERA to 3.66 in the LumberKings first game of the second-half.

Kane County jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Justin Trapp reached on an error to start the game and scored on a run-scoring groundout by Jorge Bonifacio. The lead didn't last long as Clinton stormed back with four runs in the bottom half of the opening inning.

Jamal Austin doubled to right-center to lead off the inning and quickly scored when Steve Baron singled to even the game. After Ji-Man Choi struck out for the first out in the inning Ramon Morla blasted a ball over the Coors Light Pavilion in left field for a two-run home run and a 3-0 lead. After a Dan Paolini strike out, Guillermo Pimentel sparked another rally with a single and stole second with Jabari Blash at the plate. Blash then hit a roller at Cougars shortstop Jack Lopez that should have ended the inning but the ball went under his glove and into left-center field allowing Pimentel to score the fourth run of the inning.

In the third inning, Clinton added another tally on a successful double-steal of second and home by Jabari Blash and Dan Paolini. In total, Clinton stole five bases off Kenny Swab who came into the night with a 53% caught-stealing percentage.

With Miller zoned in on the mound, the offense was back at it again in the bottom of the seventh. They got their final run of the night as Choi scored on a deep sacrifice fly to the wall in center field to make it 6-1.

The two teams meet on Saturday night at Ashford University Field for the second game in the series. Right-hander Ambioris Hidalgo (2-9, 5.69) is on the hill for the LumberKings and will be opposed by right-hander Bryan Brickhouse (0-0, 0.00) who will make his first professional start. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
