
Captains Drop Second Half Opener 4-3

Lake County Captains News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Fort Wayne Tin Caps (1-0, 32-39) defeated the Lake County Captains (0-1, 31-38) by a score of 4-3 on Friday Night at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne added insurance runs in the third inning when Lee Orr singled to begin the inning and then promptly stole second base and then scored on a Duanel Jones double and it was a 3-0 game. Fort Wayne tacked on one more as Jones was moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error and it was a 4-0 lead for Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne scored two runs in the first inning and took the early lead. Jace Peterson doubled and scored on a double by Donavan Tate, and it was a 1-0 Tin Caps lead. Tate scored, after a passed ball moved him to third base, he scampered home on an infield single by the catcher Austin Hedges and the score was 2-0 Tin Caps after one inning.
Lake County did their scoring in two innings. In the fourth, Luigi Rodriguez scored after he led off the inning with a double. Jerrud Sabourin singled Rodriguez home for his 31st RBi of the season. The score was 4-1 heading into the fifth. Heading into the ninth the score was still 4-1 Fort Wayne and then Jose Ramirez walked with one out and Luigi Rodriguez hit his fifth homerun of the season to deep right field and the score was 4-3 Tin Caps. That turned out to be the Final score as the Captains fell by one run.
LHP Frank Garces (3-4) took to the mound for Fort Wayne and got the win. Garces pitched five full innings allowing seven hits, one run it was earned on one walk and three strikeouts. Garces gave way to Ruben Mejia, who pitched two innings and allowed a hit and walked one. Johnny Barbato gave up the homer to Rodriguez and struck out four en route to his second save of the season.
RHP Felix Sterling (3-6) got the start for the Captains. Sterling just lasted four innings and took the loss. Felix gave up six hits, four runs two were earned, he walked three and struck out five. Lake County's bullpen duo of Rob Nixon and Jeff Johnson combined for four scoreless innings allowing one hit and four strikeouts.
The Captains will continue the six game road trip Saturday Night in Fort Wayne. Lake County will send LHP Elvis Araujo (2-5, 4.45) to the hill. The Tin Caps will counter with RHP Adys Portillo (4-4,1.92) who will get the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm
