LANSING, Mich. - In the second half opener, the Lansing Lugnuts' (0-1, 47-23) offense was shut out by four Great Lakes Loons (1-0, 35-36) pitchers in a 4-0 loss before a Friday night crowd of 8,415 at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Loons' starter Jarret Martin (Win, 4-5) tossed five shutout innings, allowed just two hits, walked four and struck out five. With the bases loaded, Martin induced Carlos Perez to ground into an inning-ending double-play in the fifth inning. It was the only scoring threat the Lugnuts mounted.

The Loons bullpen tossed four hitless innings to secure the Loons victory. Matt Shelton threw two frames, Raydel Sanchez struck out two in an inning of work and Matt Thomas closed it out with a scoreless ninth inning.

There were just two run-scoring hits by the Loons in the game: Scott Schebler delivered a two-out two-RBI single in the first inning and Pedro Guerrero slapped a two-RBI single to centerfield in the seventh inning.

Lugs lefty David Rollins (Loss, 5-1) settled down after a rocky first inning in which he allowed two hits and two runs. He did not allow any more hits nor runs after that in a five-inning performance in which he struck out a career-high eight.

The Lugnuts were shut out for just the sixth time this year and, at 0-1, are under .500 for the first time this season.

The Lugs continue their three-game homestand with a 7:05 p.m. start on Saturday, June 23rd which is a Christian Family Night that will feature LAFCU fireworks after the game. Righty Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 3.92) will start for the Lugs opposite Loons righty Ralston Cash (1-1, 5.68).

The Lugnuts' next home game will take place on Friday, June 22nd, opening the second half against the Great Lakes Loons. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
