SeaWolves Offense Struggles Late, Fall to Baysox 2-1

ERIE, PA - The Erie SeaWolves had not scored less than three runs in their first 14 games of 2019, but on Tuesday night at UMPC Park, finally fell to the Bowie Baysox by a final score of 2-1. The SeaWolves led off four separate innings with base hits, but were only able to muster an unearned run while leaving a total of six stranded.

Erie starter Matt Manning dazzled in his fourth start, allowing his lone run in the fourth inning. After the first three batters reached, the latter of which an RBI single by Ademar Rifaela, Manning retired the next three to get out of the inning. Outside of that frame, Manning allowed just two other baserunners to reach and struck out nine. Thus far this season, the 21-year old has a 1.59 ERA through 22.2 innings and a league-leading 32 strikeouts.

The only run for the SeaWolves came in the sixth, after Derek Hill led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Bowie starter, Bruce Zimmerman. The base hit improved Hill's hitting streak to seven games, and later came in to score on a Taylor Motter sacrifice fly.

Nolan Blackwood took the loss for Erie after allowing a one out, solo home run to Jesmuel Valentin in the top of the eighth. Bowie reliever, Tyler Erwin came on to face the minimum in the ninth and earn his first save this season.

The series split forces a rubber match tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 P.M. ET as Erie sends RHP Alex Faedo (0-1, 5.04 ERA) to the hill against RHP Marcos Molina (0-0, 3.34 ERA). The final game of a six-game homestand can be heard on Fox Sports Radio 1330 AM, SeaWolves.com, or seen on MiLB.TV.
