Brady's Tough Start too Much for RubberDucks to Overcome
April 23, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
A four-run first inning and six-run fourth inning by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies provided all the offense it would need in an 11-6 win over the Akron RubberDucks on Tuesday at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Binghamton seized control of the game starting in the top of the first when it scored four runs off Akron starter Sean Brady before making its first out. After Sam Haggerty singled to leadoff the game and Andres Gimenez walked, Mike Paez hit a run-scoring double to left, followed by a two-run double by Patrick Mazeika, which was then followed by another run-scoring double, this one coming from Ali Sanchez to make it 4-0.
Mound Presence
Akron starter Brady had a rough night, allowing nine runs (eight earned) in three innings pitched, along with nine hits, walking four and fanning two. Reliever Ben Krauth gave up two runs over two innings before Nick Sandlin threw a scoreless sixth inning for the Ducks. Argenis Angulo was on his game, throwing three scoreless innings (1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) to close it out for Akron. Binghamton starter David Peterson allowed three runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings, walking one and fanning eight.
Duck Tales
Four RubberDucks had multi-hit games as part of the 13-hit team effort. Ka'ai Tom, Connor Marabell, and Wilson Garcia each had three hits and Tyler Krieger had two for Akron. The Ducks got on the board in the second inning on catcher Logan Ice's RBI single to cut it to 4-1 Binghamton. Trailing 11-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Ducks added a pair of runs on DH Li-Jen Chu's two-run home run to right field. It was Chu's second of the year and second of the homestand. Akron added its final three runs in the ninth inning on RBI groundouts by Jorma Rodriguez and Daniel Johnson, followed by a run-scoring single by Garcia.
