ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...
Tonight, the SeaWolves battle the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins) in the middle game of a three-game set at New Britain stadium...The Rock Cats opened up the season series with a 6-2 win over the 'Wolves on Tuesday night. The loss for Erie snapped a seven-game winning streak which was tied for a season-high. The 'Wolves had won their last six games against Northern Division opponents prior to last nights defeat...The SeaWolves are back in a first place tie with Akron who was victorious over Connecticut last night 2-0. Both Erie and Akron are 4.5 games ahead of third place Altoona who downed Reading last night; six games ahead of fourth place Bowie and seven games ahead of fifth place Reading. The five teams vying for two Southern Division playoff spots are separated by just seven games heading into the final month and three days of the season...Erie is currently in a stretch of games against opponents with sub-.500 records. The SeaWolves have started the stretch 4-1...Rightie Jair Jurrjens takes the mound tonight for Erie. Jurrjens is coming off of a 10-strikeout performance (season-high) in a win against Harrisburg. Jurrjens has alternated wins and losses in his last six starts dating back to June 22...RHP Oswaldo Sosa takes the mound tonight for the Rock Cats. Sosa is making his third start since being called up from Class-A Fort Myers. In his last start against New Hampshire, Sosa went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision.
