New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Harrisburg, PA- Sergio Santos went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs with his Eastern League-leading 31st double, but the Harrisburg Senators outlasted the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-5, in 11 innings Wednesday night at Commerce Bank Park.
Dee Brown's bases-loaded single off Jo Matumoto in the bottom of the 11th inning was the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, plating Josh Whitesell with the winning run.
Matumoto (2-3) walked Whitesell (1-for-3, 2 BB, R) to lead off the eleventh, and Frank Diaz (2-for-6, RBI) followed with a single to right. Following a sacrifice bunt by Luke Montz (1-for-5, 3B, R), Marco Yepez (2-for-3, SF, BB, HBP) was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Brown (2-for-5, RBI) to send Harrisburg (38-73) to its second consecutive win in the series.
Carlos Martinez (1-0), in only his second appearance for Harrisburg, pitched one perfect inning for the victory.
New Hampshire (55-55) grabbed the early 2-0 lead off Senators' starter Jim Magrane in the top of the second inning. David Smith (1-for-5, R) led off with a single and advanced to third on a double by Rob Cosby (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, R). Chip Cannon (2-for-4, RBI, BB) singled home Smith, and Cosby came in on an Aaron Mathews' ground out.
Yepez hit a sacrifice fly off Fisher Cats' starter Kurt Isenberg in the fourth inning to trim New Hampshire's lead to 2-1. Montz, who tripled, scored the run.
Harrisburg took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when Sheldon Fulse (4-for-5, R, SB) scored on a wild pitch, and Diaz had an RBI single.
Diaz grounded into a bases-loaded double play against reliever Jean Machi in the seventh inning, but Ofilio Castro (3-for-4, 2B, R) scored on the play, giving the Senators a 4-2 lead.
The Fisher Cats scored three times in the eighth inning to move ahead, 5-4. Santos stroked a double to left-centerfield off reliever Brett Campbell that scored Manny Mayorson (1-for-5, R) and Ryan Patterson (2-for-5, R), who both singled. Cosby chased Santos home with the go-ahead run with a two-out single.
Harrisburg tied the game, 5-5, in the bottom of the eighth inning when Steven Mortimer scored on Seth Overbey's wild pitch.
The Fisher Cats look to avoid a three-game sweep when left-hander Ricky Romero (0-5, 4.88) takes the mound Thursday night at 6:35pm against Harrisburg left-hander Mike Hinckley (9-8, 5.43). Radio coverage begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter) with Mike Murphy.
The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:35pm to open a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators. Tuesday is the Neighborhood News Punt, Pass and Kick Competition and the first 1,500 fans receive free footballs. For tickets, call (603) 641-2005 or visit www.nhfishercats.com.
