Chesapeake Baysox News Release

(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox set out on Wednesday to avenge a loss that broke their longest win streak of the season at nine games, but it wouldn't be easy as the Baysox once again had to battle from behind vs. Portland.

Cory Keylor would once again haunt the Baysox as he got things started for Portland in the third inning with a one out triple. Keylor came around to score on a Jeff Natale single to center to put the Sea Dogs ahead, 1-0. Bubba Bell would then get on base on a fielding error by Luis Jimenez at first base, when Bell hit skipped past him into right field, Iggy Suarez and Natale would score to give the Sea Dogs a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the frame.

The Baysox would put one run on the board in the third, when Jeff Fiorentino hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Blake Davis, cutting the Sea Dogs lead to, 3-1.

Portland would tack on another run in the fifth, when Jay Johnson smacked a line drive single to score Jeff Corsaletti, good for a 4-1 Portland lead.

The Baysox only amassed four hits over the final five innings of the game. David Haehnel seemed to put some rough outings behind him, as he pitched a hitless eighth and ninth, spelling reliever Felix Romero from the game. Haehnel did give up a run though in the top of the ninth on another error by Luis Jimenez, scoring Natale for a 5-1 Portland lead.

The Baysox were able to cut it to 5-2 in the ninth on an Eli Whiteside single with two outs, scoring Nolan Reimold. Newly acquired Gustavo Molina came in to pinch hit for Blake Davis, but went down in the books as the final out as Mike James sat down Molina swinging for the final out, securing the Sea Dogs win, 5-2.

Oscar Alvarez took the loss for the Baysox, going 5.0 innings, giving up six hits and four runs, while recording six strikeouts. Sea Dogs starter Felix Diaz picked up the win, going 5.0 innings, giving up only four hits and one run.

Luis Montanez who made his first start for the Baysox went 2-for-4 on the night with a double to lead the Baysox in hits.
