McCutchen And Chamberlain Join Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Class AA Affiliate of the N.Y. Yankees, announced today that RHP Daniel McCutchen has been promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton. RHP Tyler Clippard has been placed on the Disabled List with a stiff neck retro-active to July 30th, and RHP Joba Chamberlain has been transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to Trenton.

McCutchen had a 11-2 record with a 2.50 ERA for Tampa in 17 games and 16 starts. A Florida State League All-Star representative, he has compiled a 5-1 record with a 1.46 ERA in seven games and six starts since the All-Star break. McCutchen, the 30th rated prospect in the Yankees Minor League System according to Baseball America, is second in the Florida State League in wins and third in ERA. He is slated to make his Double-A debut on Tuesday night for the Thunder in Binghamton. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 13th round of the 2006 draft from Oklahoma University.

Clippard suffered his injury on July 26th in his lone start for the Thunder at Reading. He pitched three innings and gave up four hits and three runs before leaving prior to the bottom of the fourth inning. Clippard started 2007 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 3-2, 2.72 ERA in nine starts before a promotion to the Major Leagues. He won his debut against the N.Y. Mets on national television at Shea Stadium. Clippard was 3-1, 6.33 ERA before being sent back Scranton. Clippard was transferred to Trenton on July 24th. Last year he was 12-10 for Trenton including the first "no-hitter" in Trenton history on August 19th in Harrisburg, PA. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 9th round of the 2003 draft.

Chamberlain went 1-0 in two appearances (one start and one relief outing) for Scranton. In six total innings, he yielded only four hits while striking out 13 and walking one. He did not give up a run in either outing. He has combined to go 9-2 record this season, with a 4-2 mark and a 3.43 ERA for the Thunder.

Chamberlain entered the 2007 season as the #5 prospect in the N.Y. Yankees system and then went 4-0, 2.03 ERA in seven starts for the Tampa Yankees. He won the Eastern League's "Pitcher of the Week" award on June 18th, but highlighted his year by pitching in the "Future's Game" during All-Star weekend in San Francisco, CA. His best outings for Trenton came back-to-back (7/3 & 14) as he set a career-high with 12 strikeouts over six shutout innings against Harrisburg and then came back to work seven shutout innings (3 H, 9 K's) against New Hampshire. He became only the 2nd Cornhuskers pitcher ever selected in the 1st Round of the amateur draft. Chamberlain was the 41st Overall selection in the 2006 draft.

Trenton continues a three-game series tonight against the Binghamton Mets, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. RHP Daniel McCutchen makes his Double-A debut for Trenton against Binghamton RHP Salvador Aguilar (5-5, 5.53). The Thunder return home on Friday August 3rd at 7:05 p.m. to take on the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
