THE CALENDAR TURNS AGAIN: The Sea Dogs finished July with 16-13 record and ended a three-game losing streak with last night's victory...Portland has won eight of their last 11 road games and seek their fourth straight series win with a victory tonight...The Sea Dogs have the third best road record in the Eastern League - Akron has the best at 32-23 and Trenton is second at 26-24...Bowie had their 9-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: John Otness snapped a 3-3 tie with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the ninth inning, giving the Sea Dogs a 4-3 victory over the Bowie Baysox in the series opener. Andre Pinckney started the rally, nailing a two-out triple down the right field line off losing pitcher Nick McCurdy (1-3). Hunter Jones allowed the game-tying hit in the eighth inning but fanned the side in the ninth to earn his second win of the season. Justin Masterson took a no-decision for Portland, working seven strong innings on five hits and two runs. Bowie starter Fredy Deza allowed two home runs over seven innings on four hits and three runs. Portland took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jeff Corsaletti led off the game with a walk and scored on Iggy Suarez's two-run homer. Bowie tied the game at two in the fourth inning but Cory Keylor tied the game in the seventh with a solo homer. Former Sea Dog Luis Jimenez tied the game at three in the eighth inning with a two-out single.
JULY RECAP: The Sea Dogs finished July with a 16-13 record, matching their best month of the season (May 17-14)...Portland hit .281 during July, posting an ERA of 5.00...Catcher Dusty Brown hit .455 (25-for-55), 3 HR, 11 RBI...Outfielder Bryan Pritz hit .377 (29-for-77) 3 HR, 18 RBI...Hunter Jones posted the best ERA out of the bullpen at 2.00, earning victories on July 12 & 31.
FIVE FOR FIVE: Justin Masterson was denied his 5th straight Double-A win when Jimenez tied the game with a single in the eighth inning...Masterson has quality starts in all five appearances with the Sea Dogs.
OUCH: Outfielder Bryan Pritz is day-to-day with a sore left ankle...He suffered the injury in game two of Saturday's doubleheader against Connecticut.
