Miscellaneous Notes
Last Game... The Senators opened up a three-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday with a 10-1 win. The 2,783 on hand at Commerce Bank Park enjoyed watching the Sens score six two-out first inning runs in the win. After winning pitcher Beltran Perez had a fairly easy first inning, the Senators bats exploded in the bottom of the inning. The Senators hit for the cycle as a team with Frank Diaz hitting a three-run home run, Dan Dement doubling, and Seth Bynum chipped in with a two-run double. All six runs scored with two outs. The Sens scored single runs in the fifth and sixth, then two more in the eighth on a two-run single off the bat of Diaz. Diaz drove in five runs with four hits on Tuesday night. Dement had at least two hits for the seventh straight game. Dee Brown also had two hits and an RBI in the game. Beltran Perez went seven shut out innings, his longest stint of the season for his sixth win.
Tonight's Game... The Senators and New Hampshire Fisher Cats play game two of a three-game series tonight at Commerce Bank Park. The Sens snapped their five game losing streak last evening and now look to start August with a win. They've started just one of the first four months of the season with a win, as they started May 2-0. Tonight's Starting Pitcher... The Senators send RH Jim Magrane to the mound against LH Kurt Isenberg for New Hampshire. Magrane is making his 12th start this season for the Senators. He has worked out of the bullpen for the Sens, and as a starter. He also started three games and had an outing out of the bullpen for Columbus this season. He was originally signed as a nondrafted free agent in 1999 by the Devil Rays. He spent the last seven years in Tampa's organization, going 61-64 in 203G/171GS.
Sens Notes...
► The Sens have not had the same line up in two straight games since the first two games of the season.
► The six first inning runs the Senators scored last night were the most scored in the first inning this year
► Dan Dement has an eight game hitting streak, and has at least two hits in each of his past seven games
► The Sens still have 11 of the original 24 players still on their roster that started this season. Altogether, the Sens have used 50 different players this season.
► Since the All-Star break the Sens are batting .278 with 66 extra base hits
► Since the all-star break the Sens are hitting .247 with risp... they have left 72 runners in scoring position and have 45 two-out RBIs
► The Senators have scored six or more runs 12 times in the 19 games since the break, but they are just 6-13 since the break. In the first 91 games this season, the Sens scored six or more runs just 27 times.
► The offense is averaging 5.8 runs per game since the All-Star break, however the Sens are giving up an average of 6.9 runs per game.
► Last night was the first quality start from a Sens starter since Beltran Perez went 6 innings at Akron on 7/16. He allowed a run in that outing.
► The Sens have struck out 10+ times in a game 26 times this season and have also struck out more than any other team in the Eastern League
► From the eighth inning on this season the Sens have been outscored 111-78. In July, they've been outscored 26-17
► The Sens are now 36 games under .500 after snapping their five-game losing streak last night. The lowest point the Sens have been in their 21 year franchise history is at the end of the 2004 season when they finished 52-90, 38 games under .500.
► The Sens had four players named to the EL All-Star team this season: Collin Balester, Dan Kolb, Brett Campbell, and Josh Whitesell
