SeaWolves Fall 4-1 To Thunder

The SeaWolves have dropped to 0-3 following a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Trenton Thunder on Saturday afternoon at Waterfront Park. The game marked the return of starting pitcher Duane Below, who made his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last spring.

Below was sharp early allowing one hit and striking out five in the first two innings. In the third however, the Thunder bats came alive. With one out, Luis Nunez double and was doubled home by Austin Krum for a 1-0 Trenton lead. David Adams followed with a two-run home run to left-center for a 3-0 Trenton advantage.

Below (0-1) would finish his day working a scoreless fourth inning finishing the day allowing three runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

Trenton added a run against Erie reliever Ryan Ketchner in the bottom of the seventh. Nunez doubled with one out and was doubled home by Adams with two outs for a 4-0 lead.

Erie would finally get on the board in the top of the eighth against reliever Josh Schmidt. With one out, Jeff Kunkel tripled into the left field corner. For Kunkel, it was his first three-bagger since the 2007 season with West Michigan. Shawn Roof grounded out to short, scoring Kunkel, making it 4-1. Erie would get no closer.

The SeaWolves have now scored just two runs on 11 hits in the first three games. The loss gives the 'Wolves their first 0-3 start since 2006.

Erie looks to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon against the Thunder...1:05 First Pitch. Righty Thad Weber takes the mound for the 'Wolves making his first start of the season.
